2018 is flying by and you’ve just realized you haven’t done a workout in weeks. It happens. Here’s how to fix it.
Motivation often goes astray and this is completely normal. When your mojo goes AWOL you have a two choices. You can choose to continue as is and dream of what could have been or, you can decide to kick into action and follow these four P’s of motivation.
Start treating your workout as an event that carries as much importance as any other appointment, because if you don’t schedule this in everything else will take priority; kids, partners, pets, the housework…
How many days a week do you want to train? What time is best for your body? Where will you workout? Will you meet friends, do a class, or book in with a personal trainer? The key is to find something you love to do for exercise.
Prioritize your set workout times as non-negotiable. Decide on a minimum number of sessions and do these sessions no matter what.
Every great team and athlete has a support crew around them. You need one too. Friends, family and work colleagues who are as invested in your success and helping you achieve your goal are like gold. Tell them about your goals, the commitment you are making and ask them to help hold you accountable.
What is your WHY? And why is it important to you?
Is it to feel sexier? To be healthier for your kids? Will the completion of a half marathon prove to yourself that YOU can finish a challenge you set out to do? When you identify your purpose your motivation will skyrocket. Your purpose is the reason you can lose the excuses and be consistent. It will help you stick to the plan – even when you think the plan is ridiculous and you really just want to eat a mountain of chocolate! Find your why. Write it, draw it, plan it. Identify this and you can achieve anything.
Use these four P’s; planning, priorities, people and purpose and you will be full of motivation, heading to the gym like it is New Year’s Day. Go get it!
